Winter is on its way!

Winter season is almost here are you prepared?

Once you have taken care of your landscaping by cleaning out your flower beds, trim your shrubs and trees, getting Winteryour leaves cleaned up, aerated your lawn and put down seed. There are other things you will need to do to protect your landscape.

You might want to start thinking about planting for the winter season. You will want to choose plants that can withstand the cold temperatures. Pansies, mums, and foliage plants are the types you will want to look into.

Since you are already out there planting, why not think about planting for the spring season. Now is the time to plant your bulbs for the spring blooming season. Bulbs like crocus, hyacinth, daffodils, and tulips are a good choice; when spring arrives your flower garden will be beautiful!

You can wrap your tree trunks to help prevent bark damage to newly planted trees or think bark trees. When the temperatures dip during the night it causes the sap to freeze which can, in turn, cause the bark to split. Wrapping the bark will help to provide a barrier from the cold temperatures and keep the sap from freezing.

Prepare your Landscape for Winter

Now is the time to start preparing your landscape for the upcoming winter months.

You will want to make sure you’re removing all debris from your landscape and flowerbeds. Now is the time to prune all your shrubs and trees. Also, it is a good idea to make sure you have a nice layer of mulch put down. This will help protect your plant roots during quickly approaching winter season.

The fall season is a good time to have aeration done. Aeration will break up the soil and allow for water, oxygen and fertilizer access to your grassroots. Also, this is the time to seed your lawn. The process of aerating and overseeding with help to fill in the bare spots in your lawn and it will help to prevent disease. Additionally, this will help your landscape to be ready for the cold and beautiful in the spring.

Planting 6 weeks prior to the freezing of your ground will give your plants the opportunity to become established prior to the cold temperatures and snowfall.

Depending on your area you can sometimes pant well into mid-November. You want to make sure you provide a good barrier for your newly planted material. You will want to put down mulch or some type of covering to protect the roots when the temperatures dip.
