Fall Cleanup

Winter is coming make sure the outside of your home is prepared. Fall Cleanup

It’s almost that time of the year again, time to prepare for the upcoming winter months. Fall cleanup is when you have all your plants, shrubs, bushes, trees trimmed. You also, want to clean all drainage areas of debris, make sure all the leaves are up off the ground, clean out your flower beds and gardens in preparation for when the snow begins to fly. During this time of yeat should also power wash your decks and house and store your tools properly.

During your fall cleanup, you will want to put down your preemergent and or herbicides to stop the weeds from germinating. You can also have your aerating done during this time, it is best because it will ensure that the roots of your plants receive the proper nutrients during the winter months. Aeration keeps the water from ponding on the surface and breaks up the soil to promote air movement and prevent compaction.
After you aerate your lawn you can put down fertilizer and this will help to ensure that your lawn gets the nutrients it needs during the winter months. This will encourage the growth of your roots so that when spring comes back around, you will have a beautiful lawn.

Firewood

When buying or seasoning your own firewood you want to make sure that the moisture level of firewood is between 15 and 20

pwoodercent. Anything higher, the efficiency drops, and the smoke output goes up.

When looking for the best-seasoned firewood, it will be dried until the moisture content is below 20 percent. This will take some time, six months at a minimum. When looking at the wood if it has been properly seasoned, the color should be faded. As time passes, the color will continue to fade becoming lighter and the wood will become hard.

Some think that unseasoned firewood will not burn; this is simply not true it may take a little more time to ignite, but the biggest issue with the unseasoned firewood is that it will create smoke and more creosote as it burns. For the best fires with the least smoke, you always want to use seasoned firewood.

This is known as a natural barrier that’s laid over the soil as a protective barrier. In gardening, the type of compost you should use is biodegradable manure and or mulch that breaks down into the soil and provides it with nutrients.

You should lay over the compost before preparing your garden beds. You should also lay it over the soil when your flowers, food crops, seeds, and seedlings have been sown and planted. North Canton Firewood

North Canton

North Canton Firewood

It has been a crazy winter from nearly 60-degree weather in December to snow the next day.  We all know how Ohio weather is; with the up and down of bitter cold like we are having today. It’s nice to have firewood on hand, to keep warm in this unpredictable weather.
Groundhog day was not too long ago and Punxsutawney Phill did not see his shadow. So spring is coming early so they say!  It’s still cold out there, waking up to snow flurries and it feels like single digits today. I bet even though Punxsutawney Phill does not live in North Canton, he has firewood on hand!
